    The displacement of a string carrying a travelling sinusoidal wave is given by \[y=A\sin (kx-\omega t-\phi )\] At\[t=0,\]the particle at\[x=0\]is having half of the maximum amplitude and is moving in upward direction.     Solution :

                     Here, at\[t=0,\text{ }x=0\]and\[y=\pm \text{ }\frac{A}{2}\] So,          \[\sin \phi =\pm \frac{1}{2}\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\phi ={{30}^{o}}\] or \[330{}^\circ \].
