Which one of the following is the true covalent oxide of iodine?

    A) \[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{4}}\]

    B)  \[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}\]

    C)  \[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{7}}\]

    D)  \[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{9}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In, general, higher the oxidation state, more is the  covalent  character  of the  oxide,\[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{7}}\]and\[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{9}}\]do not exist.\[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{4}}\]is ionic in nature. It is intact iodyl iodate\[{{[IO]}^{+}}{{[I{{O}_{3}}]}^{-}}\]. The only covalent oxide of iodine is \[{{I}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}.\]
