                                    In 1928 Frederick Griffith, a British scientist working on the pathogenecity of a bacterial strain, Streptococcus pneumoniae (Diptococcus) discovered the process of transformation. Gamow gave a sequence of 3 nucleotide codes for a single amino acid- Frederick Meischer was the first to isolate DNA, in 1869, from the nucleus of the pus cells and named it nuclein, or nucleic acid because of its acidic nature.
