                     In plants, an increase in the \[{{O}_{2}}\]concentration may result in a decrease in the rate of photosynthesis. This phenomenon of inhibition of photosynthesis by \[{{O}_{2}}\]was first discovered by a German biochemist Warburg in 1920 in the green alga Chlorella. Hence, this pheonomenon is known as Warburg's effect.
