Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

Consider the following statements. (1) Copper is present in cytochrome oxidase (2) Pantothenic acid is the precursor of Co-A (3) Thiamine pyrophosphate is the prosthetic group in decarboxylases (4)Zinc is present in RNA and DNA polymerases

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)  2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Cytochrome oxidase contains two Copper ions (CuA and CuB) and two haeme-A groups (haeme-a and haeme- \[{{a}_{3}}\]). Panthothenic acid is the precursor of coenzyme-A. The coenzyme-A is universal carrier of acyl groups. Thiamine thyophosphate (TTP) is the prosthetic group of three important enzymes pyruvate dehydrogenase, a-ketoglutarate and transketolase. Mg2+ is present in RNA and DNA polymerases. Zinc is present in various enzymes such as alcohol dehydrogenase, carbonic anhydrase, carboxypeptidase, etc.
