At the beginning of meiosis, the cytoplasm of microspore mother cell (MMC) contains all essential eukaryotic organelles. In addition of these organelles, some spherical bodies called pro-Ubisch bodies are also found in the cytoplasm. Later, these pro-Ubisch bodies are coated by sporopollenin and now these are called Ubisch bodies or obicules. These bodies help in the designing of the external thickening of pollen, ie, formation of exine.
