    Solution :

Hydrophytes are the aquatic plants growing in water. These possess following physiological adaptations. (i) Water and mineral nutrients are absorbed through general body surface. (ii) Osmotic concentration or osmotic potential of cell is equal to or slightly higher than external water. Negatively geotropic respiratory roots (pneumatophores) are found in halophytic (mangrove) plants. Presence of mucilage in fleshy organs to hold water is a characteristic of xerophytic plants.
