Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

    D-glucose, D-galactose and D-fructose are all (1) isomers                         (2) epimers (3) monosaccharides      (4) aldohexoses

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)   2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

D-glucose, D-galactose and D-fructose are add monosaccharides and isomers of glucose  \[\text{C}{{ & }_{6}}{{\text{H}}_{\text{12}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{6}\text{.}}}\]Monosaccharides or simple sugars,  can contain as few as three carbon atoms and often are used as building blocks to form larger molecules. The six carbon sugar glucose is a component of large energy storage molecules. A  structural isomers of glucose such as fructosehas identical chemical group bonded to different carbon atoms while a stereoisomers of glucose such as galactose has identical chemical groups bonded to the same carbon atom but in different orientations.
