Which of these do not occur in thylakoids? (1) Oxygen evolution     (2) Carbon dioxide fixation (3) NADPH formation (4) Chlorophyll biosynthesis

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)  2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

In the process of photosynthesis, the chemical reaction in which water is oxidized to oxygen (O2 evolution), NADP is reduced to NADPH and ATP is formed occur in thylakoids. The carbon reduction reactions (carbon-fixation reactions) are called stroma reactions. Chloroplasts contains DNA encode and synthesize some of the proteins that are essential for photosynthesis. Additional proteins, involved in photosynthesis are encoded by nuclear DNA are synthesiscd in the cytosol and imported into the chloroplast. Here, chlorophylls are synthesized in a biosynthetic pathway. Once synthesised, proteins and pigments are assembled into the thylakoid membrane.
