Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

The electron in a hydrogen atom makes a transition\[{{n}_{1}}\to {{n}_{2}},\]where\[{{n}_{1}}\]and\[{{n}_{2}}\]are the principal quantum numbers of the two states. Assume the Bohr model to be valid. The time period of the electron in the initial state is eight times that in the final state. The possible values of\[{{n}_{1}}\]and\[{{n}_{2}}\]are (1) \[{{n}_{1}}=4;{{n}_{2}}=2\]                   (2) \[{{n}_{1}}=6,\,{{n}_{2}}=3\] (3) \[{{n}_{1}}=8,{{n}_{2}}=2\]                   (4)\[{{n}_{1}}=8,{{n}_{2}}=1\]

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)   2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

According to Bohr model, \[T\propto {{n}^{3}}\] According to question                 \[{{T}_{1}}=8\,{{T}_{2}}\]or \[{{n}_{1}}=2{{n}_{2}}\] Hence, option  is correct.
