  • question_answer
If a is the initial concentration and k is the rate constant of a zero order reaction, the time for the reaction to go to completion will be

    A)  \[\frac{k}{a}\]

    B)  \[\frac{a}{k}\]

    C)   \[\frac{a}{2k}\]

    D)  \[\frac{k}{2a}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Sol.         For zero order reaction \[\frac{dx}{dt}=k\] \[dx=k.dt\] \[x=kt+I\] when\[t=0,\text{ }x=0\] Hence,    \[I=0\]                 \[x=kt\]                 \[t=\frac{x}{k}\]               For completion, \[x=a\] Hence,       \[t=\frac{a}{k}\]
