In which of the following animals, respiration occurs without any respiratory organ ?

    A)  frog

    B)  fish

    C)  cockroach

    D)  earthworm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Earthworm   respires,   but   has   no respiratory organs. The exchange of gases takes place through moist skin. i.e., (cut aneous respiration). Since, the absorptive surface of earthworm is more than its volume, so earthworm does not require any respiratory organ. Frog has three modes of respiration. (i)Cutaneous respiration i.e., moist skin all over the body surface. It take place always in frog majorly, during hibernation. (ii) Buccopharyngeal respiration. (iii) Pulmonary respiration which is not very efficient, comparing to mammal. Fishes is the complex aquatic animals respires with the aid of gills. Gills are specialized projections of the body, and vascutarized with thin walls.' Cockroach and insects possess respiratory system consisting of network of air filled tubes called tracheae.
