The following is used to get desired breed of plants.

    A)  tissue culture

    B)  genetic engineering

    C)  inbreeding

    D)  ikebana

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Genetic Engineering involves the isolation of specific genes, making copies of genes and their transfer to target genomes through a suitable vector. Through this technique, breeders are able to transfer a gene for pest resistance,   nutritional   quality   cold/hot resistance, to a plant directly from a wild relative or even from an unrelated species. Thus, genetically modified, desired breed can be developed in any plant. Tissue culture is the technical method of vegetative propagation, involves cloning through which a large number of virus-free plantlets can be produced in a limited space (in vitro). It is applicable for the formation of gendcally identical plants, multiplication of sterile hybrids, development of new hybrids etc. Inbreeding is mating of individuals closely related by ancestory. It is used in developing pure lines or homoz-ygous lines and is useful in self-pollinated plants. Ikebana is a method of flowering arrangement in Japan.
