To form one molecule of glyceraldehyde phosphate in Calvin cycle :

    A)  9 ATP and 36 NADPH are required

    B) 6 ATP and 6         NADPH are required

    C)  3 ATP and 3        NADPH are required

    D) 9 ATP and 6         NADPH are required

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

For fixation of six \[C{{O}_{2}}\]molecules during Calvin cycle of photosynthesis, 18 molecules of ATP and 12 molecules of \[NADP{{H}_{2}}\]are required. One molecule of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. (3-carbon molecules) is formed by fixation of \[3C{{O}_{2}}\] molecules. So 9 ATP and 6 NADPH molecules are required for formation of glyceraldehyde phosphate. \[3C{{O}_{2}}+6NADPH+9ATP\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}\] Glyceraldehyde- 3- phosphatge \[+6NAD{{P}^{+}}\]\[+9ADP+8{{P}_{i}}\]
