If 300 mL of a gas at 27°C is cooled to 7°C at constant pressure, then its final volume will                 be:  [BHU M-2003]

    A)  \[540\,\,mL\]

    B)  \[350\,\,mL\]

    C)  \[280\,\,mL\]

    D)  \[135\,\,mL\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                     From Charles? law                                 \[\frac{V}{T}=\]constant Where \[V\] is volume, \[T\] us temperature. Given, \[{{V}_{1}}=300\,mL,\,{{T}_{1}}={{27}^{\circ }}C\]                                 \[=273+27=300\,K\] \[{{T}_{2}}={{7}^{\circ }}C=273+7=280\,K\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]                               \[{{V}_{2}}=\frac{{{V}_{1}}{{T}_{2}}}{{{T}_{1}}}\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]                               \[{{V}_{2}}=\frac{300\times 280}{300}=280\,\,mL\]
