  • question_answer
A conducting sphere of radius \[R=20\,\,cm\] is given a charge\[Q=16\,\,\mu C\]. What is \[\overset{\to }{\mathop{E}}\,\] at its center? [BHU M-2003]

    A)  \[3.6\times {{10}^{6}}\,\,N/C\]

    B)  \[1.8\times {{10}^{6}}\,\,N/C\]

    C)   \[Zero\]

    D)  \[0.9\times {{10}^{6}}\,\,N/C\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Key Idea: The electric field inside Gaussian surface is zero. The Gaussian surface lying inside the sphere encloses no field. The field according to Gauss  law,                                                 $\mathop{\oint }^{}E-ds\frac{Q}{{{\varepsilon }_{0}}}$ Will be, for $Q=0$                                                 \[\mathop{\oint }^{}E-ds=0\] Hence, electric field is zero.
