A dynamo dissipates 20 watt when it supplies a current of 4 amp through it. If the terminal potential difference is 220 V. What is the emf produced?

    A)  225 volt

    B)  240 volt

    C)  220 volt

    D)  200 volts

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                                                                             Resistance of circuit is given by \[R=\frac{V}{i}=\frac{P/i}{i}=\frac{P}{{{i}^{2}}}\]          ??.(1) (Here, P= 20 watt, i = 4 amp, potential difference = 220 V From equation (1) \[R=\frac{20}{{{4}^{2}}}=\frac{20}{16}=1.25\Omega \] The terminal potential difference \[V=E-iR\] Emf produced \[=V+iR=220+4\times 1.25\] \[=225volt\]
