  • question_answer
A wave in expressed by the equation \[y=0.5\sin \pi (0.01x-3t)\] where x,y are in metres and t in second. The speed of propagation will be :

    A) 150 m/s

    B) 300 m/s

    C)  350 m/s

    D)  250 m/s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    Given equation is \[y=0.5\,\,\sin \pi \,(0.01x-3t)\] or            \[y=0.5\sin \,(0.01\pi x-3\pi t)\]  ?..(i) Standard equation of wave is \[y=A\,\,\sin \,\,(kx-\omega t)\]              ?...(ii) Comparing equations (i) and (ii), we get \[k=0.01\pi \] and \[\omega =3\pi \] We know that \[k=\frac{\omega }{\upsilon }\] or \[\upsilon =\frac{\omega }{k}=\frac{3\pi }{0.01\pi }=300m/s\]
