0.833 mole of a carbohydrate, with empirical formula \[C{{H}_{2}}O\], has 10g of hydrogen.   Molecular   formula   of carbohydrate is:

    A)  \[{{C}_{3}}{{H}_{5}}{{O}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{6}}\]

    C)  \[{{C}_{3}}{{H}_{10}}{{O}_{5}}\]

    D)  \[{{C}_{3}}{{H}_{4}}{{O}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[\because \]  0.833 mol. of carbohydrate has hydrogen = 10 g \[\therefore \]1 mol of carbohydrate has hydrogen                 \[=\frac{10\times 1}{0.833}\]                 \[=12g\] Empirical formula of hydrocarbon \[(C{{H}_{2}}O)\] contain 2g. hydrogen per mole. Hence, molecular formula should contain hydrogen atoms \[=\frac{12}{2}\times 2=12\] \[\therefore \] molecular formula of hydrocarbon                 \[={{C}_{6}}{{H}_{12}}{{O}_{6}}\]
