Keratinisation of skin is prevented by

    A)  retinol

    B)  thiamine

    C)  ascorbic acid

    D)  calciferol

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Keratinisation of skin is prevented by vitamin-A (retinol). Its deficiency causes keratomalasia. (dryness and scaly skin due to deposition of keratin). In this disease cells of lacrimal glands become keratinised and stop secreting tears. Ascorbic acid (vitamin-C) is essential to form bone matrix and dentine. Calciferol (vitamin-D) is   involved in absorption and retention of calcium and phosphate. Whereas thiamine (vitamin-B) prevent pellagra, beri-beri diseases.
