An example of a diamagnetic substance is:

    A)  aluminium

    B)  copper

    C)  iron

    D)  nickel

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The substances which acquire feeble magnetisation in a direction oppsite to that of the applied field, when placed in magnetic field are known as diamagnetic substances. They move from stronger to weaker magnetic field and their magnetic susceptibility is negative. As copper consists of the above mentioned properties, therefore, it is a diamagnetic substance.
