The kinetic energy of a body becomes four times its initial value. Then the linear momentum will be:

    A)  four times the initial value

    B)  three times the initial value

    C)  twice the initial value

    D)  same as the initial value

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Given : Initial kinetic energy of the body \[{{E}_{1}}=E\] Initial kinetic energy of the body\[{{E}_{2}}=4E\] The kinetic energy of the body is \[=\frac{1}{2}m{{\upsilon }^{2}}\] As m remains constant, hence for the kinetic energy to be four times the new value of velocity v must be two times that of the initial value. The  initial  linear momentum  is \[{{p}_{1}}=m\upsilon \] Hence, the new linear momentum is given by \[{{p}_{2}}=m2\upsilon =2m\upsilon \] \[{{p}_{2}}=2{{p}_{1}}\]
