    Solution :

    \[2Mg+{{O}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}2MgO\] \[\because \]  1 mole of oxygen is combined with 2 mole of \[Mg\] to produce \[MgO\] Hence \[2\times mol\] wt. of \[Mg\] \[=2\times 24=48\] \[\therefore \] 1.5 mole of oxygen combines with \[=1.5\times 40=6gm\].
