The absorption of glycerol, fatty acids and monoglycerides takes place by the:

    A)  lymph vessels within the villi

    B)  wall of the stomach

    C)  colon

    D)  capillaries within the villi

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Fatty acids, glycerol and monoglycerides are soluble in water so they cannot reach the blood stream directly. In intestinal lumen they first incorporated into small, spherical, water soluble micelles and then into chylomicrons (very small fat molecules). Chylomicrons released from intestinal cells into the lymph present in the lymph capillaries (lacteales).
