  • question_answer
For the reaction \[A+B\xrightarrow{{}}C\], it is found that doubling the concentration of A increases the rate by 4 times, and doubling the concentration of B doubles the reaction rate. What is the overall order of the reaction?

    A)  \[4\]

    B)  \[3/2\]

    C)  \[3\]

    D)  \[1\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[A+B\xrightarrow{{}}C\] On doubling the concentrator! of A, rate of reaction increases by 4 times \[\therefore \]  Rate \[\propto {{[A]}^{2}}\] (w.r.t A) However, on doubling the concentration of B rate of reaction increases two times. \[\therefore \] Rate \[\propto [B]\]  (w.r.t B) Thus,   overall   order   of   reaction \[=2+1=3\]
