    Cell wall consists of

    A)  lignin, hemicellulose, protein and lipid

    B)  hemicellulose, cellulose, tubulin and lignin

    C)  lignin, hemicellulose, pectin and lipid

    D)  Lignin, hemicellulose, pectin and cellulose

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Cell wall consists of lignin, hemicellulose, pectin and cellulose. Cellulose is the chain of glucose molecules joined by \[\text{ }\!\!\beta\!\!\text{ -1-4}\] glycosidic bonds, a hydrophobia crystalline polysaccharide is the major component of cell walls. Hemicellulose is the heterogenous group of cellulose which play structural role in cell walls. In cell walls, fatty substances occur in many forms like propectin, pectin and pectic acid. Besides these, cell walls may have other organic compounds like tannins, lignin, cutin, suberin, volatile oils, acids and some crystalline substances.
