  • question_answer
\[20mL\]of methane is completely burnt using \[50mL\]of oxygen. The volume of the gas left after cooling to room temperature is

    A) \[80mL\]

    B) \[40mL\]

    C) \[60mL\]

    D) \[30mL\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

: \[C{{H}_{4}}+{{O}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}C{{O}_{2}}+{{H}_{2}}O\] \[22400mL\]of methane requires \[22400mL\]of oxygen for burning. \[\therefore \] \[20mL\]of methane will require \[=20mL\]of oxygen. This means that \[20mL\] of methane will burn completely using \[20mL\] of oxygen. \[\therefore \]Volume of the gas left will be of oxygen only \[=(50-20)=30mL\]
