For a transformer, the turns ratio is 3 and its efficiency is 0.75. The current flowing in the primary coil is 2 A and the voltage applied to it is 100 V. Then the voltage and the current flowing in the secondary coil are _____ respectively.

    A)  \[150V,1.5A\]

    B)  \[300V,0.5A\]

    C)  \[300V,1.5A\]

    D)  \[150V,0.5\text{ }A\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    : Here, \[\frac{{{N}_{s}}}{{{N}_{p}}}=3,\eta =0.75,{{I}_{p}}=2A,{{V}_{p}}=100V\] For a transformer \[\frac{{{N}_{s}}}{{{N}_{p}}}=\frac{{{V}_{s}}}{{{V}_{p}}}\] \[\therefore \] \[{{V}_{s}}=\frac{{{N}_{s}}}{{{N}_{p}}}{{V}_{p}}=3\times 100V=300V\] Efficiency of a transformer, \[\eta =\frac{Output\,power}{Input\,power}=\frac{{{V}_{s}}{{I}_{s}}}{{{V}_{p}}{{I}_{p}}}\] \[0.75=\frac{(300V)({{I}_{s}})}{(100V)\,(2A)}\] \[{{I}_{s}}=\frac{1.5}{3}A=0.5A\]
