RNA interference which is employed in making tobacco plantresistant to Meloidogyne incognita is essentially involved in

    A)  preventing the process of replication of DNA

    B)  preventing the process of translation of mRNA

    C)  preventing the process of splicing of hnRNA

    D)  preventing the process of transcription.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

: RNA interference method involves participation of a long double stranded RNA (ds RNA) to silence the expression of target genes. Upon introduction the ds RNA enters a cellular pathway, gets processed into small interfering RNA (si RNA) then si RNA assemble into RNA induced silencing complex. The siRNA subsequently guide the complex to complementary RNA molecules where they cleave and destroy the target wRNA. In this way, the entire process causes silencing of mRNA. Meloidogyne incognita infects the roots of tobacco plants and causes a great loss by causing reduction in yield. Because of RNAi, these plants are made resistant to this nematode.
