    Where is protein digestion accomplished?

    A)  Rectum

    B)  Duodenum

    C)  Stomach

    D)  lleum

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The highly acidic chyme enters the duodenum, and it neutralizes the HCl and provides an alkaline environment necessary for the action of the intestinal enzymes. The pancreas also sends secretions called trypsin (an enzyme which helps breakdown complex protein into simple amino acids). A protein enters the duodenum as an intermediate structure (peptone or proteose) and finally leaves in the form of single amino acid molecules.
