Which antiviral substance is produced in response to viral infection for restricting its multiplication?

    A)  Virion

    B)  Antigen

    C)  Interferon

    D)  Antibody

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Interferon does not inactivate viruses directly. It prevents viral replication in surrounding cells by reacting with specific receptors on the cell membranes to block cellular genes that encode intracellular effector antiviral proteins. The antiviral proteins inhibit viral multiplication by inhibiting the synthesis of essential viral proteins. Virion is a complete virus particle with its DNA or RNA core and protein coat as it exists outside the cell. An antigen is any substance that causes immune system to produce antibodies against it. An antigen may also be formed within the body as with bacterial toxins or tissue cells. An antibody is a type of protein. The body of an individual produces antibodies when it detects harmful substances.
