  • question_answer
A body of mass 2 kg, moving on a horizontal surface with an initial velocity of 4 m/s comes to rest after 2s. If one wants to keep this body moving on same surface with a velocity of 4 m/s, the force required is

    A)  2 N

    B)  4 N

    C)  6 N

    D)  10 N

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                    Here, \[u=4\text{ }m\text{/}s,\] \[v=0\]and \[t=2\,s\] \[v=u+at\] \[0=4+a\times 2\] \[a=-\frac{4}{2}=-\,2\,m\text{/}s\] Thus, opposing force \[F=ma=2\times 2=4N\] To maintain the speed 4 m/s, a force ( 4 N) is to be applied.
