If an electron jumps from orbit n = 4 to the orbit n = 2 in an atom, then the wavelength of the emitted radiation is (Take R = Rydbergs constant)

    A)  \[\frac{16}{9R}\]

    B)  \[\frac{16}{7R}\]

    C)  \[\frac{16}{5R}\]

    D)  \[\frac{16}{3R}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Wavelength of the emitted radiations \[\frac{1}{\lambda }=R\left[ \frac{1}{n_{1}^{2}}-\frac{1}{n_{2}^{2}} \right]\] \[=R\left[ \frac{1}{{{(2)}^{2}}}-\frac{1}{{{(4)}^{2}}} \right]\] \[=R\left[ \frac{1}{4}-\frac{1}{16} \right]\] or            \[\lambda =\frac{16}{3R}\]
