Inter-vertebral disc consists of a shock absorber connective tissue known as

    A)  hyaline cartilage

    B)  elastic cartilage

    C)  fibro cartilage

    D)  recticulo cartilage

    E)  calacified cartilage

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Fibrocartilage possess thick dense bundles of collagen fibres in matrix. White fibrocartilage is the strongest cartilage. It oceurs in joints between vertebrae functioning as shock absorber and also in public symphysis. Calcified cartilage is hard and found in suprascapula of pectroal girdle and pubis of pelvic girdle in frog. Hyaline cartilage is transparent with no fibres in the matrix. It is most abundant cartilage found upon articular surfaces at joints of long bones, ventral ends of the ribs as costal cartilage. It also helps to form nose, larynx, trachea, bronchi and most of the embryonic skeleton. Elastic cartilage contains elastic fibres providing strength and maintains shape of certain organs. It is found in wall of larynx, ear pinna, epiglottis and eustachian tubes.
