A cone. aq. solution of \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] is 86% by mass and has a density of 1.78 g \[m{{L}^{-1}}\]. 50 mL of this solution is diluted to 1 L with water. What is the \[{{H}^{+}}\]ion concentration of the dilute solution in mol\[{{L}^{-1}}\]?

    A)  0.15

    B)  0.51

    C)  0.78

    D)  1.56

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Mole of \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\]in \[50\,mL\]stock solution \[=50\times 1.78\times \frac{86}{100}\times \frac{1}{98}=0.78\] Since, 50 mL of the above solution is diluted to 1.01. Molarity of\[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] in dilute solution = 0.78M \[[{{H}^{+}}]=2\times 0.78\] \[=1.56\,M\]
