    DNA synthesis occurs in.:

    A)  prometaphase

    B)  prophase

    C)  interphase

    D)  telophase

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

DNA synthesis occurs in interphase. In cell cycle, \[{{G}_{1}}\]is a resting phase, during S phase DNA synthesis takes place and \[{{G}_{2}}\] phase is again a resting phase following DNA synthesis. These three phases viz \[{{G}_{1}}\], S and \[{{G}_{2}}\]constitute inter phase. Prophase is the first stage of cell division after interphase and before metaphase. The chromosomes become shorter and thicker and are visibly double stranded toward the end, chromosomes pair to form typical bivalents. Telophase is the last stage of cell division following anaphase preceding interphase. The chromosomes gather at the opposite poles and begin to uncoil to finally from loosely packed masses of chromatin fibers.
