    A)  LH

    B)  FSH

    D)  progesterone

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Trigeminal nerve is the largest cranial nerve. It arises from the ventral surface of the pons varolii. It is mixed in nature. The immediate cause of induction of ovulation in human female is large plasma surge of LH. The fall in FSH concentration and a rise in that of LH served as a specific stimulus for ovulation. The release of the ovum from the follicle is termed ovulation. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulates growth of ovarian follicles and their secretion of   oestrogens   in   the   female,   and spermatogenesis (formation of sperms) in the male. Estradiol is the principal feminizing oestrogen, It stimulates the development of female secondary sex characteristics during puberty and maintains them through the reproductive years of adult life. Progesterone is secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary. Both estradiol and progesterone are required for ovulation.
