    Conjugation occurs in :

    A)  Funaria

    B)  Spirogyra

    C)  Oryza

    D)  Selaginella

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Sexual reproduction in Spirogyra takes place by conjugation. It is of two types i.e., scalar form and lateral conjugation. Scalariform is more advanced than lateral conjugation. Reproduction in Selaginella takes place by spores. Selaginella is heterosporous and the spores are of two kinds: (i) Microspore (ii) Megaspores. They are produced in microsporangia and megasporangia which arise in the axils of microsporophylls and megasporophylls and may be cauline or foliar in nature. Sexual reproduction in Funaria takes place by the formation of antheridia and archegonia which are multicellular. They are borne on the leafy gametophores and are never sunken.
