When a metal with work function 0.8eV is illuminated with light of 3eV, then the stopping potential will be:

    A)  3.3eV

    B)  1.1eV

    C)  2.2eV

    D)  none of there

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

From Einsteins photoelectric equation \[{{E}_{K}}=hv-W\]  where W is work function of metal, \[{{E}_{K}}\]is maximum kinetic energy of electron and hv is energy of incident photon . Given, \[hv=3\,eV,\,\,W=0.8\,eV\] \[\therefore \] \[{{E}_{K}}=3-0.8=2.2\,eV\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[{{V}_{s}}=\frac{2.2\times 1.6\times {{10}^{-19}}}{1.6\times {{10}^{-19}}}=2.2\,eV\].
