Which of the following is a component of electron transport chain in mitochondria?

    A)  Phytochrome

    B)  Cytochrome oxidase

    C)  Plastocyanin

    D)  Carotenoids

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The complex IV of respiratory chain is also called cytochrome oxidase. It carries electrons from cytochrome C to molecular oxygen reducing it to \[{{H}_{2}}O\]. Cytochrome oxidase is a large enzyme of the inner mitochondrial membrane. For every four electrons passing through this the enzyme consume four substrate \[{{H}_{2}}O\] from the matrix (N side) in converting \[{{O}_{2}}\] to \[{{H}_{2}}O\]. Plastocyanin is a soluble Cu-containing electron transfer protein. It is found in the chloroplast pnd take part in light reaction. Phytochrome is a glycoprotion pigment complex. It is found in all green plants except algae. Carotenoids are unsaturated poly hydrocarbons being composed of eight isoprene units. They are sometimes called lipochromps due to their fat soluble nature.
