If resistance of a galvanometer is \[6\,\,\Omega \] and it can measure a maximum current of 2 A, then the required shunt resistance to convert it into an ammeter reading upto 6 A will be :

    A)  \[5\,\,\Omega \]

    B)  \[4\,\,\Omega \]

    C)  \[3\,\,\Omega \]

    D)  \[2\,\,\Omega \]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Natural uranium has two isotopes 92U238 and 92 U235 in the ratio 145 : 1. It has been experimentally found that the fission of \[{{U}^{238}}\] takes place only by fast neutrons and that of \[{{U}^{235}}\] is possible by slow neutrons also. \[_{92}{{U}^{235}}{{+}_{0}}{{n}^{1}}{{\xrightarrow{{}}}_{92}}{{U}^{236}}\xrightarrow{{}}\] \[_{56}B{{a}^{144}}{{+}_{36}}K{{r}^{89}}+{{3}_{0}}{{n}^{1}}+\]energy. \[{{R}_{S}}={{R}_{1}}+{{R}_{2}}=R+R=2R\] Resistance increases twice, hence heat produced is halved. Therefore, \[{{Q}_{S}}=\frac{1000}{2}=500\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\frac{{{Q}_{P}}}{{{Q}_{S}}}=\frac{2000}{500}=\frac{4}{1}\]
