    The phenolic compounds secreted by the plants in response to fungal reaction are called phytoalexins. The pre-infectional biochemical defence mechanism includes me presence of certain chemicals such as phenols and chlorogenic acid. Red variety of onion shows resistance towards Colletotrichum drdnans. The scaly leaves of this variety contain certain phenolic compounds like protocatechuic acid and catechol which inhibit spore germination of the fungus. Proteins are polymers of amino acids and are major structural component of the body. Lipids are heterogeneous group of compounds with one characteristic in common i.e., their hydrophobic nature.
