    Gluconeogenesis is the synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources. It maintains blood glucose level during starvation or during vigorous exercise. It occurs mainly in liver and to a lesser extent in the kidney. Glycogenesis is the conversion of excess of glucose into glycogen by liver cells with the help of insulin secreted by pancreas. Glycogenolysis is the conversion of glycogen into glucose by the liver cells with the help of glucagon secreted by pancreas.
