At which stage of mitosis chromatids separated and passes to different poles?

    A)  Prophase

    B)  Metaphase

    C)  Anaphase

    D)  Telophase

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

During anaphase stage of mitosis centromere of the chromosome divides and the two chromatids start repelling each other, separate completely to become daughter chromosome and move towards the opposite poles. During prophase of mitosis the chromosomes shorten, thickened by coiling, nucleoli and nuclear membrane disappear and the centrioles moves to opposite poles of cell. During metaphase of mitosis the chromosomes line up around the equator of the spindle and attached by their centromeres ro the spindle fibres. During telophase the chromatids reach the poles of cell, uncoil and lengthen to form chromatin again. The spindle fibres disintegrate, nucleolus and nuclear envelope re-appear.
