  • question_answer
Monosomy and trisomy can be represented  as:

    A)  \[2n+1,2n+3\]

    B)  \[2n-1,2n-2\]

    C)  \[2n,\,\,2n+1\]

    D)  \[2n-1,\,\,2n+1\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

The variation in chromosome number is called heteroploidy and can be categorised into euploidy (variation in entire set) and aneuploidy (variation of individual chromosome). When there is loss of one chromosome from the homologous pair this is called monosomy (2\[n\] - 1) and when there is increase of one chromosome from the homologous pair this is called trisomy (2\[n\] + 1). When there is loss of 2 chromosome from the homologous pair this is called nullisomic (2\[n\] - 2) and when there is increase of 3 chromosomes from normal homologous pair this is called pentasomic (2\[n\] + 3).
