Cell organelle responsible for autolysis :

    A)  dictyosome

    B)  lysosome

    C)  peroxisome

    D)  glyoxysome

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Lysosome is filled with digestive enzymes (like protease, nuclease, phosphatase etc.) which work at acidic pH. The lysosomes release hydrolases in the diseased or ageing cells to digest them (autolysis). So, cell biologists called lysosomes as suicidal bags. Peroxisomes are single membrane bound small spherical bodies. They are found in the leaves   of   higher   plants   in   which Photorespiration takes place and these contain.oxidative enzymes like catalase. Glyoxysomes are single membrane bound spherical bodies usually found in castor bean seeds which store fats as reserve material. Dictyosomes or Golgi bodies are made up of cistemae, vesicles and tubules. They involved in secretion, cell plate formation, formation of acrosome etc.
