    Iodine is essential for the life of animals. It is required for the formation of thyroxine  homone which control basal metabolic rate (BMR). This hormone sttimulates protein synthesis and therefore promote growth of body tissues. Calcium is useful for the formation of bone and teeth, and help in blood clotting in animals while for cell wall formation, meristematic activity and metabolism in plants. Phosphorus is important for formation of bone, teeth and biomembrane and is a part of energy carrier in both plants and animals. Potassium is important for normal muscle and nerve activity in animals and maintenance of cell turgidity, opening and closing of stomata,   essential for photosynthesis, respiration and protein synthesis in plants.
