The equation of transverse wave is given by \[y=5\,\sin \,2\pi \left( \frac{t}{0.04}-\frac{x}{40} \right)\] where distance is in cm and time in second, then the wavelength of wave will be:

    A)  20cm

    B)  40cm

    C)  60 cm

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     The standard equation of transverse wave is \[y=a\sin 2\pi \left[ \frac{t}{T}-\frac{x}{\lambda } \right]\] ... (i) where \[\lambda \] is wavelength and a is amplitude. Given, equation is \[y=5\sin 2\pi \left[ \frac{t}{0.04}-\frac{x}{40} \right]\] ... (ii) Comparing Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[\frac{x}{\lambda }=\frac{x}{40}\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\lambda =40\,cm\]
