  • question_answer
\[{{H}_{2}}S\] is more acidic than \[{{H}_{2}}O\], due to:

    A)  O is more electronegative than S

    B)  0-H bond is stronger than S-H bond

    C)  O -H bond is weaker than S-H bond

    D)  none of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Key Idea: Proton donors are acids. Between \[{{H}_{2}}O\] and \[{{H}_{2}}S\] the molecule which is having weaker bond, will give \[{{H}^{+}}\] ion easily and hence more acidic. \[\because \] \[{{H}_{2}}S\] larger in size as compared to \[{{H}_{2}}O\]. \[\because \]\[{{H}_{2}}S\] can be dissociated easily and therefore it can easily give H4 ions. \[\therefore \] \[{{H}_{2}}S\] is more acidic than \[{{H}_{2}}O\].
