    Ginger multiplies vegetatively by:

    A)  tuber

    B)  corm

    C)  sucker

    D)  rhizome

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Regeneration of new plants from vegetative organs like roots, stem and leaves is called vegetative propagation. Rhizomes are thick underground stems which store food for perennation. They possess buds for forming new shoots during favourable periods. A piece of rhizome having a bud can grow to form new plant e.g., Turmeric, ginger, Adiantum etc. Mint and Chrysanthemum bear suckers at the base of aerial shoots. When suckers break due to mechanical disturbance a number of independent plants are formed. Corms are unbranched swollen underground stems which bear many buds, which sprout to form new plant.
